mining - environmental management
Canada is a world leader in environmental management in mining, and the Canadian "brand" is recognized internationally. CAS activities mostly focus on developing an EMP (environmental management plan) to mitigate issues relating to tailings, erosion concerns in relation to increased turbidity in local tributaries and waste rock. Concerns also include nitrate impacts due to heavy blasting as well as, spill response, cleanup and reporting, environmental assessments, risk assessments and impact assessments (prior to expansion of mining activities, etc). Environmental management planning is a very important aspect of maintaining a strong and sustainable mining sector in Canada and abroad. Minimizing the environmental impact of mining leads to healthier communities and supports the vital contribution that mining makes to the everyday lives of Canadians.
